🐾 Subsidise Veterinary Care in Australia – Because Pets Deserve Help Too!

The issue

All Members of Parliament (MPs) and The Hon. Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry!

Vet bills are becoming impossible for everyday Australians to afford. We're calling on the government to subsidise essential and emergency care, so no pet suffers because their owner can’t afford help.

Australians love their pets — but right now, veterinary care is out of reach for many families. We are calling on the Australian Government and all Members of Parliament to introduce a national subsidy for veterinary services.

With over 69% of households owning a pet, animals are a huge part of our families and mental wellbeing. Yet the cost of care is rising fast — leaving pet owners struggling to afford even basic treatments.

What are the real costs?

After-hours vet visits can start at $200–$300, even without treatment.
Common emergencies like broken limbs or snake bites often cost $2,000–$5,000+.
Basic care like vaccinations, desexing, and dental cleaning can cost hundreds of dollars.
Many Australians are being forced to delay care, surrender pets, or opt for euthanasia due to cost.
This is heartbreaking, avoidable, and unnecessary. No one should have to choose between financial stress and the health of a beloved animal.

🐾 We call on the government to:
✅ Introduce a means-tested vet subsidy scheme, starting with concession holders and low-income earners.
✅ Provide support for emergency care costs, especially outside regular clinic hours.
✅ Partner with veterinary clinics to cap basic service fees.
✅ Fund public education around affordable, preventative pet health care.
This petition is about compassion, responsibility, and the well-being of millions of Australians and their pets.
