Learn How You Can Help Create Affordable Homes in Penticton

Only about 2 weeks left to make a difference in Penticton by getting this development built.
This same developer built Sendero Canyon and many other major developments in BC. They are very qualified and build quality homes.
More than 60% of the buyers at Sendero Canyon were from Penticton and area. They ALL had homes to sell which brought about 200 older homes built in the 70's and 80's onto the market for other local buyers to be able to buy more affordable homes. These were bought by first time buyers and people selling townhomes and condos.
The ONLY way to create "affordable" housing is to build new homes. Single detached homes, townhomes and duplexes. We MUST build what consumers wish to buy, not dictate who can buy what, and with the developer investing their own money, they will build what needs to be built.
The alternative is to build "social" housing, that you and I pay for from increased taxes, or tax cuts to health care or education.
The current proposal is to create 115 half to one acre lots. This too will do nothing to help create affordable housing as these will then be $2m homes. It is senseless. We MUST move this project forward and get it built with the highest density possible given the current housing crisis that will be with us for the next decade or more.
By going to the City website below and completing the survey and leaving your comments our City staff will have the best chance of helping this development proceed.
ALSO, please send your thoughts, comments and letters of support to
council@penticton.ca
Thank you again for your ongoing support
PS The reason the proposal did not go to public hearing last time was because the City Council received about 90 letters opposed and only a few in support of the development. Let's flood city hall with letters of support!
