Students protecting LGBTQIA+ privacy

The Issue

During CUSD school board meetings, there has been discussion over a policy that would make teachers report LGBTQIA+ students to their parents. Essentially, if I student were to say they were a part of the community or ask to go by a different set of pronouns/ a different name that what is indicated on their file, their parent would be notified. This would result in LGBTQIA+ students being outed to their parents.

If the school board passes this policy, LGBTQIA+ students across CUSD will be impacted. School will no longer be a safe place for students to express who they are.

We need to act now because School Board members are aiming to pass this policy at their meeting on October 18.
