Yesterday, we opened a poll with the question:
Do you think the current Executive Board of TU Delft is capable of bringing about cultural change to improve social safety?
After a day, these are the interim results: 219 responses in total, with 108 motivations. We list some of them here (anonymized). Please keep speaking up, talk about this poll, and share!
Yes: 12.6% (27 responses with 3 motivations)
- “Please give people a chance to improve. A lot of good things were done by the current Executive Board. They are smart people and will obviously listen to suggestions on how to improve social safety. In my honest opinion and with great respect, I think we are overreacting a little bit. Make sure old employees who felt mistreated are properly compensated/heard and move on. People can change and learn from mistakes.”
Maybe: 7.4% (17 responses with 10 motivations)
- “The initial reaction to the report shows me that they are not naturally on the side of the employees and students. That’s a shame and they have to make it right. I don't think they cannot do it, everyone can learn.”
- “It depends if they are willing to listen and learn from what is said.”
No: 80% (175 responses with 95 motivations)
- “They have known for years and for years they have consistently proven they don't care. I can't see why that would now miraculously change.”
- “They have known about the problems for a long time and didn't care until everybody knew: they are responsible, and they should take responsibility by stepping down. They cannot be trusted to solve the problems: they are like a wolf in sheepskin.”
- “The current Executive Board is more concerned with maintaining the image of those who are responsible for such cases. We need an Executive Board that is willing to instil cultural change and is fully behind this.”
- “Lack of any sign nor evidence that they are capable of this. On the contrary!”
- “They are intelligent people, ignoring systematic signals of their employees for years. Instead, they put their energy into attacking victims and the Inspectorate of Education. They do not have a clue how to behave properly in this new age and time.“
- “Management is accountable for the lack of social safety, so they should resign. Their communication and suing strategy was misaligned with the rest of the TUDelft. They have nominated a board of social safety that is all-Dutch and mostly managers, which will only perpetuate the lack of social safety.”
- “If first, you doubt that 'melders’ [respondents] are honest/sincere and question openly that they may be the ones causing unsafe environment themselves, and then you pose yourself as the one to create the better environment, you have lost your trustworthiness.”
- “The pure idea of going to court over the report on social security, instead of taking it seriously, already disqualified them. Then later on blaming victims and basically every statement of the rector in the short interview with TU Delta showed a degree of absurdity and unwillingness that I would've never considered possible.”
- “They have crept into the victim role and seem to want to stay there”
- “In their response the current Executive Board has shown no real understanding of the issue at hand. The overall attitude has been damaging to all involved. In any other organization than a university the executive board would have already left.”
