Gazumping, gazundering and sellers pulling out . Laws need to change

The Issue

After a separation me and my 13 year old son needed to move out of our family home where I’ve lived for 21 years .
Working as a frontline nurse in critical care I worked extra weekends , nights , bank holidays to get the funds together to pay for the move

I found a house which needed a lot of work but it was all I could afford and was prepared  to knuckle down and make it our forever home. Due to the nature of the house I gave away our wardrobes , settee amongst many other items to reduce storage whilst we stayed at grandparents until the house was suitable to move into

We accepted an offer on our property and signed what I was to leave: washer , cooker , fridge , 2 freezers and other items ,  then later on nearer to completion the buyers then wanted to reduce there offer by £2000 . I was in a difficult position as the house I was buying  had being empty for a year and they wanted a quick sale and even stated they had being approached privately . I reassured them and due to this accepted the reduced offer on our home .

With less than 10 days to complete I received a phone call to say the seller had decided not to sell . With my home all packed up in boxes , clothes in suitcases you can imagine I was devastated ! Not only an emotional loss but financial with over £2000 with solicitors fees, valuation fees , surveyors report  and the loss of accepting a lower offer of the sale of our home.
Leaving me with no home to move into and needing to leave as I had sold our home

I had visited the property on many occasions to plan what work we needed to do and at no point did the sellers give an inclination they were possibly going to change there mind . In fact they were pushing for a quick sale .
Obviously me and my son are heartbroken as we have become emotionally attached to the house , which I drive passed every day to work

Laws need to change in relation to this as this is just so wrong and should not be able to happen

Sellers should have to sign a legal document to commit to sell or pay back the monies the buyer has lost in the process if they pull out

Gazumping should also be illegal

Buyers  should not be able to reduce there offer so long  after offer accepted

My petition therefore is to have the same laws in Scotland and similar in other countries to prevent this happening and people life’s being affected

l have now got to find somewhere to live , whilst living with everything boxed , continuing to work , look after my son and work extra again to find the money again to move to a new home

Please support me and other families that have , are and possibly going to go through this horrendous situation
