In the past week, pro-Pell rape apologia has flooded the news defending Pell, attacking the brave survivor, the public and the justice system. It’s obvious: people in power don’t like it when power is held to account.

They’re not saying anything new, which is exactly why it’s so hurtful. Survivors have heard it all before and it reminds them how society often won’t take their abuse seriously and can isolate them in trauma. It’s also a dangerous message, one that forces many people suffering from abuse to remain quiet in fear that the world either won’t believe or won’t help them.

This is why standing together is so important. By signing this petition you’re telling the world that you believe survivors, you believe in justice, you believe there must be consequences and you believe we can stand together and demand better.
