Friends, standing against the collective punishment for October 7th being meted upon the population of GAZA, including a million children, is imperative to the preservation of our humanity!

This is a proposal for a STRIKE to deny the internet the oxygen of our personal interests, in demand of a ceasefire in Gaza. If you are repulsed by the bloodletting of babies and children --14,000 dead and17,000 orphaned (as of May per UNICEF); 20,000 presumed buried under rubble (per Save the Children); 10 a day losing one or both legs (per UNRWA –which does not account for lost arms and hands); 1,000,000 traumatized and forced  towards starvation and deadly disease—ACT NOW.

The defenders say: “such is war.” But now that social networks and alternative media transmit these atrocities live, we simply cannot look the other way. Heroic students, scholars and activists are putting their careers and livelihoods on the line. Aaron Bushnell gave his life. Thousands of us that feel hand-tied are resorting to the constant sharing of images of torn and broken children on social media. And this is proving to be a powerful tool.

As I understand it, when there is an overwhelming number of posts on the same subject, the algorithms that program social networks automatically capture related material and disseminate it exponentially. This has, undoubtedly, contributed to bringing millions of people to the streets in protest and consequently to more and more governments taking action in support of Palestinians.

The question is: can we raise this a notch with a pledge, not to post anything personal on social media, while overwhelming the internet with the images of suffering Palestinian children –until a permanent cease fire is implemented? Or at least, can you pledge to post five or more images a day in support of a ceasefire? Perhaps we can “turbo-ize” the internet to become a powerful force for peace now and again, as needed!  Let’s give it a try.
