Strengthen Laws for Victims of Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence in Australia

Strengthen Laws for Victims of Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence in Australia
The issue
In 2019, I was sexually assaulted by my partner. I was stalked, harassed, and intimidated to the point where I had to move states for the safety of myself and my children. Just two weeks later, Hannah Clarke was brutally murdered by her partner. The horrifying reality that this could have been us is a chilling reminder of the urgent need for stronger laws in the family and criminal court.
Although a small amount of justice has been served for myself many others do not get any justice and like myself live with life long effects.
In Australia, one woman is killed every week by a current or former partner (source: Australian Institute of Criminology). Despite these alarming statistics, victims often struggle with the criminal system and family court system to secure protection for themselves and their children.
More then 100 women were killed in 2024 alone.
Our legal system needs reform. We need stronger laws that prioritize victim safety over offender rights. We need better support systems in place for victims navigating through complex legal processes. We need stricter enforcement against offenders who breach intervention orders.
By signing this petition, you are standing with survivors like me who have faced sexual assault and domestic violence firsthand. You are calling on our lawmakers to enact stronger laws that protect victims rather than perpetuate their suffering.
Please sign this petition today - because no one should live in fear within their own home.
