Strava: bring back cause-specific map types

The issue

In November 2025, Strava made the decision to remove all cause-specific map types, such as Support Ukraine, Black Lives Matter, and Pride, and replaced them with a single “For a Cause” activity tag.

With this change, the powerful visual impact these maps once provided has been drastically reduced. What used to be a bold, visible statement of solidarity is now hidden behind an optional tag that is visually less impactful.

These map designs were a meaningful way for people to express their values, raise awareness, and add a more personal flare to their activities.

Strava’s new tag system does have an inclusive element: it allows athletes to represent causes that never had a dedicated map. Whilst Strava cannot create a unique map for every cause, these two ideas do not need to be mutually exclusive. The activity tag could easily coexist with cause-specific maps, preserving visibility while expanding inclusivity.

Do you want the old maps back? Do you feel that Strava is quietly stepping back from supporting the causes that matter to you?

If you believe these maps were an important feature that you would like Strava to bring back, please add your voice.
