Unsere Forderungen an die EU und die Bundesregierung:

1. Sofortiges Verbot der Grundschleppnetzfischerei in allen europäischen MPAs.
2. Strengere Schutzvorgaben: 30 % der Meere bis 2030 unter wahren Schutz stellen.
3. Subventionsstopp: Kein Steuergeld mehr für diese klimaschädliche und unwirtschaftliche Praxis!

Our demands to the EU and the German Federal Government:

1. Immediate ban on bottom trawling in all European Marine Protected Areas (MPAs).
2. Stricter protection requirements: Place 30% of the seas under real protection by 2030.
3. End subsidies: No more taxpayers’ money for this climate-damaging and uneconomical practice!

 

Soziale Ungerechtigkeit:

Bedrohung von Küstengemeinden: KleinfischerInnen verlieren ihre Existenzgrundlage, da industrielle Trawler die Meere leerfischen.
Irreführende Politik: Nur 12 % der EU-Meere sind formal geschützt, jedoch sind weniger als 1 % streng geschützt bzw. u.a. vor der Schleppnetzfischerei geschützt!

Social Injustice:

Threat to coastal communities: Small-scale fishers are losing their livelihoods as industrial trawlers empty the seas.
Misleading policies: Only 12% of EU seas are formally protected, but less than 1% are strictly protected or safeguarded from practices like bottom trawling!

 

Ökonomische Zerstörung:

Kosten für die Gesellschaft: Bis zu 11 Mrd. € pro Jahr durch CO₂-Emissionen aus aufgewühlten Meeresböden, Steuergelder für Subventionen (1,3 Mrd. €/Jahr) und Schäden an Ökosystemen.
Wirtschaftlicher Irrsinn: Die Industrie erwirtschaftet nur 2 % des in Europa konsumierten tierischen Proteins -> die Kosten übersteigen die Erträge um ein Vielfaches.

Economic Destruction:

Costs to society: Up to €11 billion per year due to CO₂ emissions from disturbed seabeds, taxpayer money for subsidies (€1.3 billion/year), and damage to ecosystems.
Economic absurdity: The industry produces only 2% of the animal protein consumed in Europe - costs far exceed the returns.

 

Ökologische Verwüstung:

Zerstörte Schutzgebiete: 60 % der europäischen MPAs werden mit Grundschleppnetzen befischt – sie sind „Schutzgebiete“ nur auf dem Papier.
Klimakiller: Durch das Aufwühlen des Meeresbodens werden jährlich Millionen Tonnen gespeicherter Kohlenstoff freigesetzt – vergleichbar mit der Emission von 10 Millionen Autos.
Artensterben: Bis zu 92 % des Beifangs in der EU stammen aus der Grundschleppnetzfischerei. Ganze Lebensräume wie Korallenriffe werden in Sekunden zerstört.
 
Ecological Devastation:

Destroyed protected areas: 60% of European MPAs are fished with bottom trawls—they are “protected areas” only on paper.
Climate killer: Millions of tons of stored carbon are released every year by disturbing the seabed—comparable to the emissions of 10 million cars.
Species extinction: Up to 92% of bycatch in the EU comes from bottom trawling. Entire habitats, such as coral reefs, are destroyed in seconds.
