The Issue

UPDATE: Please sign this UK Parliamentary Petition for the UK to impose urgent trade sanctions on Israel. The petition is gathering momentum - we only need 10,000 signatures for this to be formally considered by Parliament:

The time for asking nicely is over - Israel has become increasingly defiant in the face of repeated pleas for restraint and increasing international outrage over its illegal actions in Gaza and the West Bank. Israel is exquisitely sensitive to meaningful international pressure. However the limited sanctions placed by the UK on specific individuals within the Israeli government do not go far enough. What are needed are comprehensive trade sanctions which would place the required pressure on Israel to change course.

Israel has repeatedly ignored international pleas for restraint despite mounting evidence of war crimes—including civilian starvation, indiscriminate bombing of residential areas, and systematic destruction of critical infrastructure.

The limited set of sanctions placed by the UK on specific individuals within Israel do not go far enough to create real pressure on the Israeli government to reverse direction. Comprehensive trade sanctions and a full arms embargo represent the only remaining peaceful tools to influence a government showing complete disregard for international opinion and humanitarian law.

The Gaza Strip has suffered catastrophic humanitarian consequences:

- Over 53,000 Palestinians killed

- Over 100,000 injured

- Millions displaced

- The entire population facing imminent famine due to Israel's blockade with no route to escape for innocent civilians

Israel's restriction of all humanitarian aid, including all food, to an entrapped civillian population constitutes collective punishment against 2.3 million civilians and is illegal under the Fourth Geneva Convention. By allowing only nine aid trucks to enter Gaza—less than 2% of pre-war levels—Israel clearly violates its legal obligation as the occupying power to ensure adequate food and medical supplies reach the population.

The systematic targeting of hospitals, schools, and civilian infrastructure violates fundamental principles of distinction and proportionality in international humanitarian law:

- The UN has documented at least 136 strikes on 27 medical facilities

- Over 500 medical professionals killed

- Harvard University researchers found damage patterns to healthcare, education, and water facilities had less than 1% chance of occurring randomly

Britain, France, and Canada have already condemned Israel's actions as "egregious" and "wholly inadequate," warning they are breaching international law. But repeated condemnations alone have failed to halt the suffering.

Our Demand
We call on the UK Government, Members of Parliament, and all those with influence to prioritize the preservation of human life above all else. We demand the implementation of comprehensive economic sanctions and a full arms embargo against Israel until they do the following:

  1. Allow unrestricted humanitarian aid into Gaza, including food, medicine, fuel, and essential supplies
  2. Cease attacks on hospitals, schools, refugee shelters and other protected civilian infrastructure
  3. Permit independent international humanitarian organizations full access
  4. Allow independent international press access to Gaza
  5. Agree a permanent ceasefire that protects civilians
  6. Release civilian detainees and cooperate with hostage release efforts

Civilian lives are not expendable. Children deserve to live without the continuous threat of starvation and bombing. The deliberate use of hunger as a weapon of war and systematic destruction of civilian infrastructure must be met with concrete consequences.

Sign our petition demanding UK government action until Israel complies with international law and ends the suffering of civilians in Gaza. We need 100,000 signatures to bring this to Parliament.  UK leadership will create a path that other national governments will follow.
