Stop YouTube Exploitation of Detroit's Homeless Population

Stop YouTube Exploitation of Detroit's Homeless Population
The Issue
I understand the plight of the homeless intimately. For many years, I was part of this overlooked population, grappling with mental health issues, addiction, and life on the streets. It was a daily struggle just to stay alive. Being homeless means living through crisis after crisis, every day a test of endurance and will, every moment steeped in vulnerability.
To have someone exploit this vulnerability for their personal amusement or gain is a gross breach of human dignity. A YouTuber plans to come to Detroit to assault, harass, and provoke our homeless brothers and sisters—all for the sake of recording this and posting it for personal gain on the internet. Such acts not only compromise the physical and mental health of these individuals but also trample on their rights and dignity.
Did you know Detroit has one of the highest homelessness rates in the U.S, with around 14,117 people living on the streets as of 2019? And a significant proportion of them suffers from mental illnesses or substance use disorder. (Source: Detroit Homeless Count, 2019)
This YouTuber’s actions can cause irreparable harm and trauma to those already dealing with the harsh realities of life on the streets. It’s not just inhuman; it’s morally wrong.
We must prevent this individual from exploiting Detroit’s homeless community. Let's protect the rights and attend to the well-being of our city’s most vulnerable inhabitants. We demand YouTube enforce stricter regulations and standards for content that exploits vulnerable groups, starting with barring this individual from capitalizing on human suffering.
Please sign this petition to stop this YouTuber and protect our homeless community. Your signature is more than just a virtual action—it's a call to safeguard the dignity and humanity of every individual.
