We, the residents of Townsville, are fatigued and profoundly distressed due to the constant sense of insecurity within our homes. It is truly disheartening that we live in fear, concerned about the ongoing risk of criminals entering our residences, stealing our possessions, harming individuals, and participating in thefts and other unlawful actions.

We firmly believe that the Queensland government has not adequately heeded the voices of crime victims and has shown reluctance in implementing penalties that would genuinely discourage criminals.

Therefore, we urgently urge the Queensland Government to take swift action by enacting substantial legislative reforms aimed at imposing strict penalties on offenders, including juveniles. This is essential to provide law-abiding citizens with the peaceful living environment they rightfully deserve.

Our specific requests to the government are as follows:

1. Implement longer sentences and more severe penalties for individuals involved in crimes such as home invasions and car theft.
2. Allocate increased resources to combat youth crime, including strengthening police patrols, improving community programs, and enhancing education and drug and alcohol rehabilitation.
3. Intensify efforts in the investigation and apprehension of those responsible for such criminal activities.
