Stop Workplace Misconduct, and Employee and Client Abuse at WECare

Stop Workplace Misconduct, and Employee and Client Abuse at WECare
The Issue
Hi, my name is Tay, and until recently, I worked at Waldorf Emergency Care (WECare). I absolutely love working with animals, but on October 8, 2025, I was fired for refusing to let one of the practice owners and doctors, Ken Fox, a doctor who has a long history of unsafe and unethical behavior toward both staff and animals, treat my cat. A cat that was given to me by a coworker and has absolutely no connection to the hospital. We believed she was pregnant because of her large mammary glands, but an xray debunked that. So we assumed she just recently had kittens.
On the evening of Saturday, October 3, Dr. Fox attempted to pressure me into hospitalizing my cat under his care, as he’s done to many clients in the past. I declined letting him know I would take her elsewhere. Staff and clients have repeatedly raised concerns about his handling of animals and his professional judgment, we do not want him touching our pets after what we witness daily. He continues to practice despite numerous complaints about his behavior and competence. Days later on the afternoon of Wednesday, October 8, as I clocked in for my shift, I was confronted by Kelly a lead tech and “acting manager”. She instructed me to follow her as she led me to the conference room where she called Valerie Fox, putting her on speaker phone. Valerie Fox, the practice manager and Dr. Fox’s wife, the one responding to all the clients reviews btw. She bullied me and manipulated for at least 20 minutes about my cat. She gave me an ultimatum: either provide them with my pet’s medical records from the facility I chose to get her treated at or be terminated. There are no written policies or guidelines regarding this, so I asserted my rights denying providing them with anything they have no right to demand from me. Just a few weeks prior, another employee had been fired under similar circumstances.
Many of us at the hospital, including clients, have felt bullied, manipulated, and intimidated by this husband and wife ownership team. When I stood my ground letting her know that I am super clear that I am absolutely not required by law to share my pet’s personal medical information with my employer, there is no explicit written policy that I signed stating that employees’ animals must be treated in-house or that their medical records need to be reviewed by the employer, and that Valerie Fox had no legal or professional right to demand that from me. I was told by Valerie, that I was no longer trustworthy and ordered me to hand over my key card to Kelly. This was a direct violation of privacy. My cat’s medical records, just like a human’s, are protected confidential veterinary-client-patient records under Maryland law. The State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners (SBVME) specifically requires veterinarians to keep client records confidential unless released by the client or by law. Valerie had no authority to demand those records or use my refusal as grounds for termination. When she sent me my letter of termination, after I demanded it, she disguised retaliation under a fake professional standards language. “You were given the opportunity to provide documentation”, is a setup and coercion. In that email, Valerie inadvertently admitted to firing me over something unrelated to my employment performance, which was my private medical decision about a personal pet. She gave me a manipulative ultimatum: prove it or lose your job. That’s a wrongful termination basis, especially in Maryland, which recognizes exceptions to “at-will” employment when:
• It violates public policy.
• It’s retaliatory in nature.
• It involves coercion or privacy violations.
I am now filing formal complaints with:
• The Maryland Department of Labor for wrongful termination.
• The Maryland Commission on Civil Rights (MCCR) for retaliation.
• The Maryland State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners (SBVME) for unethical conduct, privacy violations, and intimidation, because demanding my pet’s medical info and retaliating when I refused violates professional conduct laws.
I brought both of my cats in with me for my shift on Wednesday to get care from Dr. Baynes, everyone’s fav doctor. Nalah (my kitten), has been seen by him a few times. I wanted him to perform her rabies shot and give Sarabi (my Siamese) a thorough exam, including diagnostics when I got settled after clocking in. Unfortunately, I was unable to do so due to the termination meeting. I also made Valerie aware of those plans while in the meeting. Dr. Fox and his wife have a habit of fabricating stories and misdiagnosing pets to get money out of people.
My cat was never in distress, suffering or dying, which they tried to manipulate me into believing. Employees often bring their pets to work because we work 12 hour shifts. Everyone who came in contact with her while she was there can vouch for how sweet and loving she is. She loves to get cuddles and she loves to roll on her belly for belly rubs. She never showed any signs of “distress”. She was in her kennel calm and content that entire day on Saturday until he randomly disrupted her, scruffing her and stretching her body out on the exam table. Mind you, he never asked if he could touch my cat. I only found out he was handling her by walking into the treatment area. Let’s be real, they are upset that I refused Dr. Fox’s request to perform surgery for fun, which is what he likes to do, often! He gets bored and distracted so he finds people and animals to bully for his entertainment. Some of that entertainment comes with verbal abuse, racist comments towards employees and insulting their religion. This isn’t just about losing a job. It’s about standing up to a toxic and manipulative work environment that has hurt countless employees, pets, and their owners. Former staff and clients have shared similar stories online about intimidation, retaliation, and disregard for both people and animals. I’m creating this fundraiser and petition because I refuse to let this be swept under the rug. Advocacy and awareness efforts to expose what’s really happening at this hospital as it’s been an ongoing issue for far too long! I believe in transparency, accountability, and the humane treatment of both animals and people. No one should lose their livelihood for doing what they feel is right for themselves and their pets.
If you’ve ever been bullied, silenced, or punished for standing up for what’s right against the Fox’s at WeCare, you know how isolating this feels. I’m asking for your help to take a stand, not just for me, but for every employee and pet that’s ever been mistreated or silenced. Please take some time out to google Waldorf Emergency Care on Google and yelp. This is an ongoing issue with this practice. Please sign and share this petition to help hold Ken and Valerie Fox accountable. Your support will help more people than you know!
Together, we can make sure no other person or animal has to suffer at the hands of those who abuse their power. Thank you from the bottom of my big ol’ heart!
