STOP WASHINGTON DEVELOPMENTS IN NANANGO

The issue

Washington Rural Developments formerly known as Washington Developments, who went into liquidation in 2012, have been approved by the South Burnett Regional Council to subdivide an approximately seven acre block into seven one acre lots on Heights Road Nanango, 3 kilometres from town. Koala's are often seen and heard in the rich dry sclerophyll forest. All adjacent properties are 7-10 acre lots which are adjoined by multi generational grazing properties.

At stake is the potential for further development in Nanango, South Burnett and Rural Queensland from deceitful developers with no ties to these rural areas but to take advantage of multi generational landholders for personal financial gain. South Burnett Regional Council appear to have changed the zoning rules with no public consultation. Grazing properties in the area could now become subdivided into one acre blocks in the future. Local landholders are already feeling unsupported and unheard by the council and are putting their properties up for sale.

Now is the time to act. The land has already been cleared for the development and the same contractor who is believed to be in charge of fencing the lot is a reportedly unlicensed to do so. Council have failed to disclose information about the development and changes to zoning to the local community. Washington Developments, Washington Rural Development, and Blackbutt Central Pty Ltd do not appear to make any information easily available to the public. It appears questionable that the local Council would make business dealings with such a developer who appears to be exploiting the rural community.
