Stop Warehouses and Trucks (SWAT)

Invitation to Warehouse Update Session and How You Can Help
Come learn the most effective way to show opposition to the warehouses. Learn what you can do to prevent more flooding in already flood-prone areas, traffic congestion, road degradation, noise, light, and air pollution, the negative impact on home values, and overall quality of life.  You are invited to attend an information session at Avalon Assisted Living 393 Amwell Rd. on Wednesday March 6th at 7 PM in the 2nd floor meeting room.  There will be a balloon at the closest entrance from the back parking lot.  If you park in the front, walk to the last door of the building along the sidewalk.

Of the remaining four warehouses proposed , three are located on Homestead Road. This is your community, your home, your quality of life, your property value, and your town.  Your voice is needed to determine the future vision of our town.
Our quality of life will be greatly affected if a 24/7 warehouse operates near our neighborhoods. How will our roads be maintained with such heavy truck traffic?  This gravely affects the safety of drivers and truckers. Inexperienced student drivers traveling to the high school will be at risk!  There are  many safety risks and costs, without clear answers.

Below is a brief update of the proposed warehouses and the upcoming meeting dates.

189/203 Homestead Road
Please make an effort to attend the next meeting scheduled for Thursday, March 7th at 7 PM in the Courtroomof the Municipal Building so that you can provide an informed opinion before the Planning Board votes.  Listen to the Watershed Institute’s lawyer question the applicant’s expert about the impact of a water source that could change the proposed site plan.  Residents will also have the opportunity to ask questions about the testimony from the applicant’s Planner.

Weston Road:
The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, April 4th at 7 PM in the Courtroom at the Municipal Building where the Planner representing the Hearthstone community will continue to testify against the proposed warehouse on Weston Road.  After his presentation, the applicant and residents will have the opportunity to ask him questions.  Hearthstone residents plan to speak up to show their opposition.

279 Homestead Road
There have been nine Planning Board meetings on this proposed warehouse.  The location is behind the Stryka Botanica building and therefore it does not have street frontage, which is not allowed in this zone. This means that Redcom hasn’t met the zoning requirements and the applicant will be submitting revised plans to the Planning Board.  No meeting date is scheduled at this time.

303 Amwell Road and 1170 Millstone Road
These are two properties to be purchased by Hillsborough using open space funds provided by taxpayers.  The resolution to purchase these two unchanged properties totaling 28 acres, was passed by the Township Committee on November 28th 2023 using existing open space tax funds for $9.5 million.  Two years ago in November 2021, Redcom Corporation purchased these properties for just over $1.5 million.  At this time, the sale has not been completed.

Hope to see you at the upcoming information session and Planning Board meetings.  There is strength in numbers.  Your presence matters so much!
