After weeks of work refining the wording and securing sponsorship from Tim McCurdy (Shadow Minister for Consumer Affairs), the petition “Improve the efficiency and fairness of the Residential Tenancies List” is now officially open for signatures on the Parliament of Victoria website.
This is the stronger version that can be tabled in Parliament and requires a formal response.

We’re asking for practical reforms to stop the endless delays at VCAT, including:
Immediate possession rights once a fixed-term lease expires and the tenant is in arrears (with safeguards)
Expedited possession when arrears exceed one month’s rent
Limits on repeated reviews in multi-tenant cases + visual ID verification at hearings
Mandatory independent checks on rental references and penalties for fraud
An overall review of VCAT processes for faster, fairer outcomes
If you’ve already signed the Change.org version, please sign this official one too — it carries much more weight.
Every signature helps push for real change so small landlords aren’t left financially ruined by non-paying tenants and procedural loopholes.
Please sign and share widely with other Victorian property owners and property managers!
Thank you all for your ongoing support.
