Radiotherapy is a powerful treatment that can cure cancer patients. That’s why we are campaigning for world-class radiotherapy to help solve the UK’s cancer crisis. An accelerating crisis that has seen 4 in 10 patients waiting too long for treatment.  Many thousands that could benefit greatly from radiotherapy are simply not getting it. As patients suffer, radiotherapy remains overlooked and under-resourced, and the technology that can cut waiting times and speed up treatment languishes.

Radiotherapy is a lifesaving, incredibly cost-effective treatment needed in about 50% of cancer cases and in 40% of cancer cures. It can harness the newest advances in science and technology, makes us better when we are ill, and when we cannot recover, stay as well as possible until the end. Remarkably, an incredibly committed and skilled multi-disciplinary workforce of only 6,500 professionals deliver this life-saving treatment to more than 160,000 people each year in the UK.

At the event, to mark World Cancer Day 2024, your MP can hear from the leading minds in the fight against cancer, patients that have benefitted from radiotherapy, and learn the facts about wait times and travel times in your constituency. Please urge them to attend using this link. They will also receive a summary of the Vision for Radiotherapy, written in partnership with leading frontline experts and patients from the radiotherapy community.

Over three years on, the Government has failed to reverse the damage of COVID on cancer care and waiting times have got worse and worse.
