Stop Uber/Lyft Negligence

Stop Uber/Lyft Negligence
The Issue
Houston, we have a problem!
Drivers are getting ambushed, carjacked, and killed while operating rideshares for Uber and Lyft.
I was robbed at gunpoint by four teenager while driving for Uber around 2:18 am on Jan 23, 2022. I got robbed of my car (Black Dodge Avenger, and all my properties inside the car and in the trunk) by my Uber passengers.
I picked up these four teenagers from N. xxxx, Houston, Texas 77004 and took them to yyyy, Houston, Texas.
They pretended to get out of the car and suddenly flanked me with two pistols on both sides of my car. Felt like a dream and I literally thought I was going to die that night. It is true that your life flashes before you! All I was able to tell them was "please don’t shoot… you can have the car". I heard the teenager on my driver side screaming"get out", twice. I immediately obeyed him, got out of the car, and ran for my life.
At that point, I was afraid he could still shoot me in my back, so, I kept running as fast as I could to put distance between us.
As a Navy veteran who did a tour in Iraq, it would be so sad to get killed by my supposed passengers right here in the city of Houston, a place I call home.
The case (98289-22) is still being investigated by Detective Z…
Uber did nothing to rectify the situation…
It’s high time we called these ridershare companies to order and make them accountable.
Recommendations:
Uber and Lyft should conduct complete background checks for every passenger they allow on their platforms. This allows for traceability and easy tracking.
Pictures of the passengers should be displayed for the drivers to see on the app.
Whoever requests a ride for another person must be made responsible for any incident that happens during the ride.
Uber and Lyft must disallow riders from using prepaid cards to gain access to their platforms.
Uber and Lyft must provide regular safety alerts and updates regarding dangerous neighborhoods to their drivers.
In conclusion, we drive to earn a living and thrive. We should not be afraid to go out and about! Uber/Lyft, our safety should be your top priority.
