STOP TRUMP TARIFFS- Make Canada+USA Friends Again.
The Issue
"Make Canada+USA Friends Again"
The ongoing trade dispute between the United States and Canada is something that affects us all, and I feel a strong responsibility to stand up against these policies, because bad policies have damaging consequences. Tariffs will negatively impact millions of people in both nations. These actions will damage our economies, put a strain on our relationships, and create uncertainty for individuals on either side of the border.
I believe it’s essential for USA and Canada to come together in conversation, to share our needs and understand our goals, so we can reach a fair and firm agreement that benefits everyone involved. By fostering open dialogue, we can prevent repeating the mistakes of the past, such as the economic downturn that led to the 1928 stock market crash and the subsequent Great Depression, which was exacerbated by President Herbert Hoover's Tariffs Act of 1930.
I take great pride in having the USA as our neighbour. Our connections run deep, as we are family, friends, and allies. We should focus and concentrate our efforts on building a stronger, smarter and bolder North American Alliance, creating an economic powerhouse.
It's time to take action! — let’s urge our representatives to seek diplomatic and sustainable solutions to these trade issues.
In the meantime, since the USA is not playing fair, we should consider implementing strategic and effective countermeasures, such as:
- Retaliatory tariffs on a "Dollar-for-Dollar" basis.
- Adding 15% EXIT tariff on all energy products and resources exported to the USA.
- Adding 10% EXIT tariff on outbound air travel to the USA, with an additional 15% surcharge for flights to Florida and Las Vegas.
- Introducing a Canadian tax credit to promote staycations.
- Allocating $2.5 billion towards enhanced border security measures.
- Supporting local businesses: Buy, Shop and Invest Canadian (Let your choices reflect your values, and let your decisions send a clear message to the USA leadership.)
- Banning USA companies from participating in Canadian government tenders or contracts. (This Canada-first approach safeguards local enterprises but also ensures that taxpayer funds are directed towards domestic businesses, thereby fostering economic growth within Canada. By retaining these opportunities within our borders, Canada can bolster its economy and stimulate innovation among its business ecosystem.)
- Cancelling the $22 billion contract for Lockheed Martin US fighter jets. Buy them from Europe.
- Reducing our dependence on the U.S. market, and by focusing on expanding and cultivating new global markets for our resources, particularly in the European Union and Asia. (Diversifying our market reach, can help Canada enhance its economic resilience, while creating new opportunities for growth and profitability.)
- Investing in the construction of new oil refineries and enhancing rail cargo transportation infrastructure, along with increasing capacity at key hubs, will allow us to transport both raw and finished products to ocean seaports more swiftly and effectively. (This strategic move will position us to compete successfully in global markets.)
I believe these actions will encourage our partners in the USA to come to the negotiating table. Together, we can the Stop Trump Tariffs. Join this vital movement and make your voice heard. Kindly, sign and share the petition today. Stand with Canada.
