The Issue

We have watched our city's lush greenery create a serene, healthy, and vibrant environment for all of us. Our city, once celebrated for its magnificent, cooling canopies, is now facing a devastating environmental crisis. Decades-old, healthy trees are being indiscriminately cut down  for urban development and road widening.

This isn't just about losing beautiful scenery; it is a direct threat to our survival in one of Karnataka's hottest districts. (Ballari: Known for severe urban heat and temperatures breaching the 40 degree C mark.

Why This is an Environmental Disaster for Ballari:

Unbearable Heat & Climate Risk: Ballari already experiences extreme summer temperatures. Stripping our roads of mature shade trees will trigger a severe Urban Heat Island effect, trapping scorching heat and making our neighborhoods unlivable.

Air & Noise Pollution Crisis: These trees act as the city’s natural lungs and sound barriers. Removing them eliminates our primary defense against vehicular dust, toxic exhaust emissions, and rising urban noise pollution.

Destruction of Biodiversity: Our urban canopy provides critical nesting grounds and habitats for local birds and wildlife. Chopping them down completely shatters our local ecosystem.

Violation of Legal Due Process: Under Section 8 of the Karnataka Preservation of Trees Act, 1976, any mass felling must involve public notices and hearings. Bypassing community input violates our democratic and environmental rights.

Our Demands to Local Authorities:
Immediate Cease and Desist: Halt all ongoing tree-felling operations across Ballari City immediately until an independent environmental impact assessment is conducted.

Redesign for Sustainable Development: We urge the Public Works Department (PWD) and Ballari City Corporation (BCC) to adopt eco-friendly urban planning. Road designs must incorporate trees into central medians or roundabouts rather than clearing them.

Mandatory Tree Translocation: Where clearance is absolutely unavoidable, authorities must deploy specialized machinery to safely uproot and translocate (replant) these mature trees to nearby public parks or institutional lands.

A Call to Action for Every Resident of Ballari:

True development does not come at the expense of our health, our heritage, and our nature. We must balance urban growth with ecological preservation.
