I recently experienced firsthand how Ticketmaster is detrimentally impacting music lovers with their excessive booking fees. I booked a ticket for a two-day festival, expecting to pay the advertised fee of £20. However, I was shocked to find a £40 booking fee attached to that single booking, doubling my anticipated cost. This isn't just an isolated incident; countless fans have faced similar financial burdens due to Ticketmaster's practices.

Ticketmaster has long been a dominant player in the ticketing industry, yet their fees are often unreasonable and unjustifiable. These excessive charges not only hurt fans but also have a ripple effect across the entire music ecosystem. Young artists struggle to build a fanbase because potential concert-goers are priced out of attending live performances. This diminishing attendance at live events threatens the very future of music culture and the livelihoods of emerging artists.

The music industry should be thriving, welcoming new talent and embracing fans from all walks of life. Instead, corporations like Ticketmaster are making live music inaccessible with their inflated fees. We need transparency in ticket pricing and a cap on booking fees to ensure that fans can support their favourite artists without being financially penalized.

I urge the Competitions and Markets Authority to investigate Ticketmaster's practices and enforce fair booking fees. It's time for a change that prioritises the music community over corporate greed.
