Stop this scam of reducing international flights from CSMIA
The Issue
I am a resident of Mumbai and a frequent traveler who relies heavily on the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) for my work and personal travels. The recent proposal to reduce international flights by 33% at CSMIA is a decision that will severely disrupt my life and that of countless others in our vibrant city just to make Adani more rich 😡
This reduction forces international airlines and passengers to reroute operations to the newly constructed Navi Mumbai International Airport. While the development of new infrastructure is welcome, CSMIA remains the most accessible and well-connected option for millions of Mumbaikars, given its established transport links and proximity to key residential and business hubs. Shifting operations will not only create significant inconvenience but also inflate travel costs, burdening regular commuters.
Navi Mumbai International Airport currently lacks adequate direct transit links to major parts of Mumbai, including the central, western, and northern regions. While "future "proposals for luxurious transit options like water taxis from South Mumbai look promising, they are not practical or affordable for everyday citizens who depend on efficient and economical modes of travel.
The redevelopment of Terminal 1 at CSMIA, while important, should not come at the cost of operational capabilities, especially when the existing infrastructure already supports millions of passengers annually. Reducing flight frequency will also impact the city's economy, decreasing business travel and tourism—critical sectors that contribute substantially to Mumbai’s financial ecosystem.
Therefore, we urge the authorities to reconsider the proposed reduction in international flights from CSMIA. Instead, a phased approach to integrating operations at Navi Mumbai International Airport, with concurrent enhancements to connectivity and affordability, should be pursued. Investing in robust transport links and ensuring competitive ticket pricing will allow travelers to choose the airport that best meets their needs without being forced due to restrictions at CSMIA.
This decision needs a broader consultation process involving impacted residents, businesses, and stakeholders to formulate a balanced, strategically sound plan that benefits everyone. Let's preserve Mumbai’s travel convenience and economic prosperity by keeping CSMIA running at full capacity.
Sign this petition to stand against the reduction of international flights at CSMIA and protect our city's connectivity and economy.
