The Issue

ISSUE: Cherry Ridge LLC  wants to lease land to Boralex Inc., a Canadian owned company, to install MET Towers now and ultimately 20 to 30 industrial wind turbines—each up to 450 feet tall—along Hoadleys Road, visible from various lakes in the area, including Lake Wallenpaupack.

To the esteemed officials of Paupack Township, we, the undersigned residents and concerned citizens, urgently request that you halt the proposed wind turbine project in our community. We also ask that the Zoning Ordinance you are currently editing ensures projects like these Wind Turbines cannot happen in the future.

Our township is renowned for its serene landscapes, abundant wildlife, and tranquil environment, which draw both residents and visitors seeking respite in nature. The introduction of industrial wind turbines threatens to disrupt this harmony, potentially causing irreparable harm to our ecosystems and diminishing the natural beauty that defines Paupack Township.

Studies indicate:
    •    Wind Turbines negatively impact local bird and other wildlife.
    •    Eagles that we have spent decades bringing back from the brink of extinction, now abundant in Paupack Township, are one of the top species of soaring birds killed by Wind Turbines.
    •    Other animals, including numerous waterfowl species, leave the area due to the sound and vibrations, making our now diverse ecosystem, a desolate one.
    •    Wind Turbines pose significant risks to the health and well-being of Paupack Township residents.
    •    Research shows low-frequency noise and infrasound from turbines causes sleep disturbances, headaches, and other health issues for those living nearby, with some studies reporting symptoms in residents as far as 2 miles away.
    •    Wind Turbines’ negative impact on view scapes will likely negatively affect our tourism, vital to our local economy.
    •    Wind Turbines likely to degrade property values

We implore you to prioritize the preservation of our township’s ecological and economic integrity over the uncertain benefits of this project. The visual and auditory intrusion of towering turbines would fundamentally alter the character of our township, undermining the quality of life we cherish and have strived to maintain.

We respectfully urge Paupack Township officials to reject the Wind Turbine project and protect our area with an updated Zoning Ordinance that prevents this type of project in the future.  The officials of Paupack Township have already approved two solar farms, making our area highly invested in alternative renewable energy solutions.  We ask for a moratorium on the Wind Turbine project. Together, let us protect the natural heritage and tranquility of Paupack Township, and the surrounding area's, for current and future generations.

Please sign our petition and stand with us against this project.
