Dear supporters,
In just 24 hours, we’ve reached over 10,000 signatures.
This is a powerful milestone — not only in numbers, but in meaning. It shows that thousands of people across Australia care about safety, justice, and the future of our communities.
Our next step is to formally contact the relevant government decision makers, including local MPs and justice officials, and present this petition to them. We will express clearly that:
- This is not an isolated case
- Public concern is widespread and growing
- Many people are calling for reform — and it’s time our leaders listened
As the person who initiated this petition, I want to share my intent clearly.
This is not about punishment or anger. It’s about prevention — about making sure that what happened in Eastgardens doesn’t happen again, to anyone.
When child protection laws are too lenient, they may appear well-meaning on the surface — but in practice, they can sometimes shield harmful behaviour from necessary consequences. That isn’t helping children — it’s failing them.
Some young offenders may begin to believe there are no real consequences for serious actions. They become emboldened.
They test limits.
They go further.
And the further they go, the harder it becomes to come back.
This petition isn’t just a protest — it’s a call to intervene earlier, to guide better, and to stop preventable harm.
We’re not just asking for change — we’re proving that people want it.
Thank you again for standing together.
— TT
