I am a resident of Malta and I have personally witnessed the distressing events where horses pulling carriages have suffered panic attacks, even dying while running alongside other public transport. This is unacceptable and inhumane. The high temperatures that we experience here in Malta only exacerbate these conditions for the animals.

Horse-drawn carriages may be seen as a traditional or romantic form of transport by some, but it's time to acknowledge the cruelty that lies beneath this outdated practice. According to data from various animal rights organizations, horses used for carriage rides often suffer from respiratory ailments due to exhaust fumes, debilitating leg problems from walking on hard surfaces, and numerous other health issues related to their working conditions.

Malta should join other progressive cities around the world that have already banned horse-drawn carriages due to their inherent cruelty. It's time we prioritize animal welfare over tradition or tourism revenue.
