Hi Folks,
I have received feedback from a number of you asking if Quiet Zones are safe.
There are many types of Quiet Zones. Walnut Avenue cross has all the safety measures but the trains still honk because the arms that come down are not at the distance they needed to be from the tracks to not honk. The reason for this is because there is a private owner that has a sliver of land that prevents the right placement. Ten years ago there were no other options and now there are: 1) Night Time Quiet Zone (City of San Jose just implemented one), 2) Wayside Horns (horns placed on the tracks that face the street instead of the engine horns), etc. What we are asking is for the City to investigate these various options.
Everyone deserves a peaceful night sleep.
Thank you for your support,
Andy
