Hi everyone,

You may have been wondering where we have been. Rest assured, we are continuing to work on promoting the recommendations outlined in our summary Strata Insurance and Housing Affordability - the voice of the strata owner. That document outlines solutions and concerns from the strata owner & renter perspective.

We are trying to engage elected officials at every level of government. We believe there are opportunities in this unusual time of a pandemic. Government and corporate sectors are involved in innovative funding initiatives and creative solutions to keep the social and economic fabric in Canada (and BC) from unraveling.

This is the time when government can create meaningful change. We continue to promote this to the media.

Fixing the strata insurance structure can save strata owners hundreds or thousands of dollars a year.

The timing is critical as we are hearing from a new wave of strata owners with numerous challenges to their strata insurance from sky-high premiums and deductibles, more owner liability, denial or partial coverage. Signatures are at 12,400+ and rising.

While we are working to re-establish the momentum we had pre-pandemic, and ensure the strata owner's voice is heard, we ask you to contact your elected officials and send them the summary and petition link. There are a number of very high profile stories capturing the media and government attention. So we need to get our message across as many times as possible.

We're hoping to streamline the recommendations for each level of government to get closer to creating action. We know the government of BC is working through some action items brought forward from insurance stakeholders and the Condominium Home Owners Association such as the Order in Council signed by Selina Robinson. It gives strata corporations the ability to pay for their insurance premiums from the CRF fund.

While this help strata corporations pay for their building Insurance, it doesn't help bring the costs down for owners or give them other options.

We're looking at other activities by the government and industry stakeholders related to the strata Insurance crisis in BC. Will continue to report back as information becomes available.

Feel free to email at fair.strata.insurance.bc@gmail.com if you have any questions or comments.

Stay safe!
