Say No to Lighting Trees at Night

Refrain killing ecosystem for illumination - A Plea for Environmental Preservation

Petition Summary

We, the undersigned, collectively voice our concern against the recent and alarming trend of illuminating trees at night. This petition urgently calls for action, urging responsible authorities to acknowledge the environmental hazards and potential harm caused by this practice. Let us unite to protect our environment and the well-being of all living beings that call trees home.

Reasons to Reject Lighting Trees at Night

1.       Disturbing Wildlife - Artificial lights disrupt the sleep and natural behaviours of birds, squirrels, and other creatures residing in trees.

2.      Harmful to Pollinators - Bright lights confuse and harm essential pollinators, such as bees, affecting the crucial pollination process.

3.      Eco-System Disruption - Excessive lighting interferes with the delicate balance of trees and their surrounding ecosystem, leading to an unhealthy environment.

4.      Waste of Energy - Turning trees into night time beacons represents a wasteful use of energy, contradicting sustainable practices.

5.      Light Pollution Impact - Excessive lighting contributes to light pollution, robbing us of the beauty of starry nights and disrupting natural ecosystems.

6.      Public Money Misuse - Taxpayer money could be better spent on necessities rather than turning trees into glittering light shows.

7.      Climate Change Concerns - Unnecessary lighting adds to energy consumption and carbon emissions, conflicting with our fight against climate change.

8.      Community Health - Bright lights at night can disturb human sleep patterns and contribute to stress, affecting overall well-being.

9.      Loss of Natural Beauty - Trees are naturally beautiful; unnecessary lights take away from their intrinsic charm.

10.   Setting the Wrong Example - Officials should set an example of environmental consciousness and responsible choices, avoiding unnecessary lighting.

Therefore, this petition is being filed in the Supreme Court of India, Delhi, with the support of responsible citizens and We Grow Forest Foundation, a Niti Aayog registered NGO dedicated to environmental and sustainability practices. Nature doesn't need our artificial spotlight; it needs our protection and respect. Say NO to lighting trees at night!
