Stop the Trauma: Protect South Asian Families from Targeted Burglary in Wokingham
The Issue
The Petition Description:
"No one should feel terrified inside their own home. Yet right now, South Asian families across Winnersh, Woosehill, Lower Earley, Woodley and neighbouring areas are living in constant fear. Sophisticated, organised criminal networks are systematically profiling and targeting these households, the frequency of which has increased significantly in recent months. These are not random property thefts. They are calculated, predatory invasions. The financial loss is devastating, but the shattering psychological trauma left behind is far worse, especially for the children. Entire neighbourhoods are trapped in a state of exhausting anxiety. The fundamental right to feel safe within one's own four walls has been completely stolen. Realising a household was deliberately watched and targeted leaves deep, invisible scars that take years to heal. The justice system treats these calculated operations as standard low-priority property crimes, completely ignoring the severe community trauma being inflicted. This must stop. Waiting for the next family to be violated is not an option.
By signing this petition, signatories demand immediate, tangible actions from those responsible:
1. Immediate Protection on the Streets (Thames Valley Police):
1.1 We demand that the LPA Commander for Bracknell & Wokingham deploy urgent undercover operations, targeted resources, and an immediate, visible police presence and regular patrols to reclaim safety in affected wards.
1.2 We call on Police and Crime Commissioner for TVP to prioritise this crisis with the local policing budget and allocate dedicated funding to hunt down and dismantle these profiling syndicates.
2. Visible Safety Upgrades in Wokingham (Wokingham Borough Council):
2.1 Demand that the Council fast-track the immediate installation of localised CCTV, smart camera networks, and upgraded, bright street lighting so criminals have nowhere left to hide in dark residential streets.
2.2 Demand that the Wokingham Borough Safer Communities Partnership fund and launch specialised, culturally sensitive trauma support to help devastated victims and explicitly integrate targeted residential burglary prevention into its strategy.
3. Real Justice from the Top (The Ministry of Justice):
3.1 Call on the Justice Secretary and the Sentencing Council to reform the Sentencing Code. 'Deliberate cultural, demographic, or heritage profiling' must become a statutory aggravating factor.
3.2 Any organised burglary that targets a family for heritage or multi-generational assets must automatically trigger the stricter, longer prison sentence.
3.3 Faster closure for open burglary cases to bring the perpetrators to justice and restore confidence of residents.
A threat to one family is a threat to the safety of the entire community. Please sign this petition today. Bring back safety, demand justice, and protect local homes."
