The Issue

Recently, a new policy proposal by the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) threatens to change how parent council funds are used.  The policy, lacking in clarity and structure, seeks to enforce a rule that parent councils donate a portion of their fundraised money to a central fund. This is alarming, as there are numerous unresolved questions surrounding this new policy. We agree that schools without councils face challenges, yet this approach encroaches on funds that were specifically raised by parents for individual schools.  The option to donate to other schools should remain optional.

The policy proposal is obscure and fails to provide adequate information and public data to justify its existence or effectiveness. We must call for transparency and ensure that parents remain at the heart of decisions affecting their contributions to the education system. We strongly believe in the need for the TDSB to disseminate more information and gain more input from the public before such a policy is executed. It is critical that we, as a community, are able to discuss and understand the consequences of our actions before we proceed.

Let's come together to preserve our individual school fundraised monies and stop this TDSB proposition. Please sign our petition to call on the TDSB to renounce this policy and respect the hard work of parent volunteers.
