PETITION UPDATE – TWO MONTHS LATER: WHAT HAS HAPPENED?

Two months ago, we asked you to raise your voice for the stray animals of Crete. Since then, a lot has happened.

What started with a petition has grown into something much bigger. Joined Forces has continued to grow, bringing together more animal welfare organisations, rescuers, volunteers and supporters who share one common goal: real and sustainable change for Crete’s animals.

But we have never wanted to simply point fingers. We have actively sought dialogue.

We have started building contacts on a political level and continue to look for ways to bring animal welfare organisations, municipalities, authorities, businesses and the people who care for these animals closer together.

At the same time, real cases have continued to show us why this petition is necessary.

In Gouves, we saw what happens when calls for help receive no adequate response and volunteers are once again left to deal with the consequences.

In Ierapetra, the abandoned shelter emergency showed the enormous scale a situation can reach – but it also showed something else: that cooperation is possible when people within the authorities are willing to act and support those trying to help.

These experiences have strengthened our belief that change cannot come from confrontation alone.

That is why we have also started putting a much stronger focus on positive examples: municipalities implementing programmes, hotels taking responsibility for the animals on their grounds, authorities working together with rescuers, tourists who refuse to look away, and individuals who simply decide to act.

Because we don't only want to show what is going wrong. We want to show what is possible when people work together.

On Facebook and Instagram, we have also launched our new educational series KNOW. ACT. CHANGE., explaining responsibilities, existing structures and what every individual can do when they encounter an animal in need.

And after these past months, the core of our petition has become even clearer: Crete does not simply need more promises. It needs consistent implementation of existing animal welfare laws, functioning structures and real cooperation.

We are not at the finish line. We are building something – and we need you to keep building it with us.
