Stop the spraying of Glyphosate on Canadian Forests

The Issue

This is a call to the Canadian Government to stop the spraying of Glyphosate (Herbicide) on Canadian Forests.

Glyphosate causes trees to show symptoms of damage, which may include drying, wilting, yellowing, or stunted growth. This occurs when the herbicide is absorbed through the leaves or roots, disrupting the tree's metabolic processes, including its ability to photosynthesize and absorb nutrients, and sometimes more severe symptoms like bark splitting and malformed growth.

Glyphosate binds tightly to soil and breaks down primarily through microbial action, with a median half-life that can range from days to months, depending on factors like soil type, temperature, moisture, and the amount of organic matter present. While it is not readily absorbed by plants when bound to the soil, it can be detected for extended periods after application, and its breakdown rate can vary significantly with environmental conditions. Also glyphosate is found in various types of water, including surface water, groundwater, and even drinking water in some areas, due to its widespread use in agriculture, lawn care, and forestry. It enters the water supply through agricultural runoff, soil erosion, and leaching, and its solubility allows it to persist in the water.

We need to take action. Glyphosate is a known carcinogen and can cause developmental effects on animal life.
