Stop the Source: Demand a Global Cap on Plastic Production Now

The Issue

The Problem: Recycling is a distraction.

For decades, we’ve been told that recycling is the answer. But the numbers don’t lie: less than 10% of all plastic ever made has actually been recycled. The rest is currently sitting in our oceans, clogging our soil, and even entering our own bloodstreams as microplastics.

We cannot "recycle" our way out of a crisis that is growing faster than we can clean it up. Plastic production is expected to double by 2040 if we don't act now. 98% of new plastic is made from fossil fuels, driving the climate crisis and poisoning communities near production plants.

The Solution: A Global Cap

We are calling on the United Nations and global leaders to stop treating the symptoms and start treating the cause. We need a legally binding Global Plastics Treaty that includes a mandatory limit on the amount of new (virgin) plastic that can be produced.

Our Demands:

Cap Production: Establish an immediate freeze and a gradual phase-down of global plastic production.
End Single-Use: Ban the most toxic and unnecessary single-use plastic polymers that cannot be safely reused or recycled.
Hold Producers Accountable: Force the companies profiting from plastic to pay for the full life-cycle cost of their products.
The bathtub is overflowing. It’s time to stop mopping the floor and turn off the tap. Sign this petition to tell the UN: No Treaty without a Production Cap!
