The Issue

For years, our community in Gusserane has thrived, built on a foundation of mutual support, friendship, and a shared love for our scenic surroundings. I am one of those who have cherished every moment spent in this close-knit community, raising a family and creating lifelong memories in a place where nature thrives and neighbors are more like family.

However, our cherished way of life is under threat. A proposed solar farm development threatens to radically alter our landscape, environment, and quality of life. While renewable energy is crucial for our planet, this particular development is not compatible with our community's unique needs and values.

The proposed location for this solar farm is on prime agricultural land, which not only threatens our local farming livelihoods but also disregards the aesthetic beauty that Gusserane is known for. Studies show that inappropriate siting of solar farms can lead to habitat loss, increased land degradation, and can disrupt local ecosystems. According to the International Renewable Energy Agency, land-use conflicts are common with renewable energy projects when not properly planned.

Moreover, this development's construction phase poses significant disruption. Noise, heavy machinery, and increased traffic threaten the tranquility and safety of our area. For a community like ours, which thrives on peace and quiet, the construction will be nothing short of a nightmare.

There are viable alternatives that can harmonize renewable energy goals with the preservation of local communities. These include installing solar panels on existing structures, brownfield sites, or rooftops, which offer excellent potential without disrupting valuable green or agricultural land. Many regions have successfully implemented these solutions, showing respect for community wishes while contributing to renewable targets.

We must stand together to ensure our voices are heard and our community protected. We urge local authorities and developers to reconsider this plan and explore alternative, less disruptive options for solar energy development.

Please join us in preserving the unique charm and tranquillity of Gusserane by signing this petition to stop the inappropriate siting of a solar farm in our community.
