I don’t think banning social media for everyone under 16 is fair. Most people my age from 13 up to 18 have grown up with social media and have used it for years though out all stages of their lifes, so taking it away from our generation feels unfair, especially when we have learnt so much from it. Social media isn’t just about entertainment, we use it to keep in contact with friends and family, learn about different topics, find information and discover new interests. I understand that social media can have risks for younger children, but I think a better solution would be to ban or restrict it for under-13s instead of everyone under 16. Older teenagers are more able to understand the risks and make responsible decisions about how they use social media if the government doesn't agree with that then they should make secondary schools as well as primary schools have lessons about it and teach them how to be safe through these apps. I also think that parents and carers should make the decision if they want there kid to have social media or not. Instead of completely banning it, there should be better safety rules and more support to help young people use social media safely. Social media can be the only way some young kids have friends, stay happy and live an enjoyable life i believe taking this away will result in many kids becoming unruly, upset and there will be a massive impact on their metal wellbeing.
