Special Invitation: A Vigil for Catalina's Deer

Friends, we extend an invitation to attend a very special event this coming Saturday, October 3rd. We will be hosting A Vigil for Catalina's Deer on the stage on Front Street in Avalon at 7pm.
During this time when hearts throughout the world are breaking daily over the ongoing eradication efforts currently taking place on Catalina Island, our days are most often filled with hard work, advocacy, outreach, protest, fundraising, and political action. In the midst of all of this, a chance to gather in remembrance and reflection will be an opportunity to connect and honor the many lives being lost.
We are especially honored to welcome Cindi Alvitre as our featured speaker. Cindi is a respected Gabrieleno-Tongva cultural leader, educator, author, and co-founder of the Ti'at Society who will be sharing the story and significance of Shokat (deer) held sacred in the Tongva tradition in which she was raised.
The Coalition to Save Catalina Deer will continue in our efforts to advocate for a world in which decisions about wildlife are made within a framework that reflects how all decisions affecting our wider world are made. There is a reason this cause has garnered worldwide attention. We intuitively know injustice when we see it. The current actions of the Catalina Island Conservancy cannot be separated from the knowledge that such violence, even in the name of conservation, reduces our ability to live peacefully in our ever changing world. We look forward to an evening which reflects these values and invite you, regardless of your ability to attend in person, to take a few moments this coming Saturday evening to reflect upon these truths and honor these lives. We hope to see you there.
