Our courtdate has been postponed

Hi friends.  We want to keep you informed as events unfold in the fight to save Catalina Island mule deer from the brutal slaughter that is happening right NOW!  Yes.  We get it.  Just knowing that it has started is a heartbreaking reality.  For those living on the Island the fear, trauma, and deep sense of injustice is part of our everyday lives.  However.......we are tougher than that and we will NOT give up.

The Catalina Island Conservancy (CIC) would like us all to think that there is nothing we can do to stop this and that it will all be over soon........

They would like us to think that the granting of the Restoration Management Permit (RMP) by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) with exemption for the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) review means there is nothing we can do and this will all be over soon.......

They would like us to think that the courts rejection of a preliminary injunction on Sept 1, 2026 that would have immediately stopped the slaughter while our ACTUAL case filed against both CDFW and CIC moves through the courts means that there is nothing we can do and it will all be over soon......Get the picture???  So do we.  This is what millions of donor dollars spent on fancy PR campaigns buys them.

Tuesday Sept 22, 2026 we were informed of a TEMPORARY delay in that process.  Our case is now scheduled to go before the Los Angeles Superior Court on Sept 28, 2026.

There has never been a more critical time in this fight.  If the court does not go as we all would like next week guess what?   They will tell you....again.....that there is nothing we can do and it will all be over soon.

But the reality is, as it has been all along, is that we are preparing for all scenarios.  We are working closely with our partners in this lawsuit and our excellent legal team to explore and plan for our response to any outcome.  We have known and prepared from the beginning that the extremism of CIC, which is clearly not supported by the broad public, could lead us to this point.

What can YOU do to help?  Here are 3 important and impactful actions you can take TODAY to make a real difference in our fight.  

1. Contact California Governor Gavin Newsom and demand he REVOKE the  RMP.  He has the power to do so!  Let him know if he's thinking of running for higher office in the future that you will NOT forget his failure to take action NOW         call at (916) 445--2841    E-mail https://www.gov.ca.gov/contact/
2.
