2026 Shenandoah County Fair pig scramble protest info!

Hello,

I am including a photo of 2026's Shenandoah County Fair's pig scramble protests and I hope you can come for any amount of time! However, you can always sign/share the petition!  Together we have now reached over 7,000 petition signatures against the cruel Shenandoah County Fair pig scramble in Woodstock, VA.  A horrible contest which has been allowed to continue for over thirty years. Kids three-eight-years-old chasing, frightening, catching by a leg or two, young pigs only a few months old, and dragging them to a pen while adults cheer. 

Pigs are more intelligent than dogs and feel pain and fear like us. They wag their tails when happy, use mud/water to cool off (they don't sweat), learn their names at two weeks, and can be injured with mishandling. Some of these injuries could be dislocated joints, spine/nerve damage, torn tendons/ligaments, and psychological trauma to name a few.

I have reached out to the Shenandoah County Fair Board in Woodstock, Virginia with animal free suggestions for over two years and no one has replied yet.  One of those alternatives is a more inclusive kinder option of a talent show.

When we have more information, we can make kinder choices with our time or money, so let's do that! Thank you so much for your empathy toward pigs who deserve so much better.  Not everyone is having fun during this pig scramble. We can choose kindness over cruelty.  Hope to see you!
