In a groundbreaking move, Save Windermere has just filed a statutory nuisance complaint against United Utilities with Westmorland and Furness Council.
Working with environmental barrister Nicholas Ostrowski, Save Windermere is demanding an immediate investigation into sewage dumping in and around Ambleside. We've provided the council with evidence documenting 113 incidents of discharges over 13 months.
If the council confirms the nuisance, an abatement notice will be served, requiring United Utilities to limit or halt sewage discharges from Ambleside Wastewater Treatment Works and other locations around Ambleside. Failure to comply could lead to prosecution and fines until the nuisance ceases.
