I work at a takeaway as a delivery driver, customers assume we get the full delivery money but sadly this isn’t always true. I know drivers that get nothing per delivery, and others that get full delivery as they should. Customers often want to tip us, but only have card. Working with the platform developers this was made possible, sadly they gave takeaways the option to opt out of letting drivers be tipped, even though it costs the takeaway nothing. 

Here the normal delivery charge is £3-3.50 and of that the drivers get between £1-£2.50(yes as little as £1 to drive their own car with their own fuel and repair bills and insurance). Added to this, a local takeaway owner has turned off the option for his customers to tip his drivers by card, cutting off any hope they have of picking up a little extra to help with extortionate costs delivery drivers suffer with food insurance an average 10 times more expensive than normal business insurance, more repairs needed and more fuel used.

If you get food delivered and appreciate your drivers who have to drive all weathers snow or sunshine to get food to you, someone who doesn’t have takeaway but believes in fair pay or a driver fed up of being mugged off by your takeaway, please sign this petition and support full delivery fees for drivers, a fair hourly rate and the OPTION for customers to tip their drivers. No one is forcing customers to tip, it’s optional so no reason selfish takeaway owners should turn it off or the platform to even give them the option to turn it off while they charge excessive amounts for food.
