Update on the petition that has now over 23,000 signatures. Last night I spoke in front of the City Council. At the end of the meeting I spoke at length with Mayor Zimmerman. He was very open to hear of the issues we are facing in Menifee with the dogs. City ordinance 218-252 is 26 pages (which I read before the meeting) and go into details of what is allowed and what is not. I pointed to him sections of the ordinance that needed to be re-visited which would help controlling illegal breeders. I also contacted Animal Control Chief Middleton to update her on the very productive meeting. She is also in support of the efforts and agree that some sections of the city ordinance need to be adjusted. I am now going to take the first shot at writing a draft with the specific sections of the ordinance and what "I" propose. I asked Chief Middleton that before sending the draft to the City Council, we set up another meeting to ensure that we are in synch. It is important to get Animal Control to agree with the edits since they have been contracted to enforce the ordinance. I am hopeful that I have the 2 main parties on-board in understanding the challenges we face with the dogs in our community, and that they both support it. Here's the petition again, which has evolved since it was written. I have added more issues from the ordinance. However the more of the signatures we have, the more pressed our City Council and Animal Control departments will have to pay attention to these issues. The City Ordinance was passed 12/5/2018 and no one has brought up any challenges including Animal Control to the City Council. Thank you for everyone who support my efforts to make our community stronger with our animals.
