Today the 10 year voluntary commitment on food waste, Courtauld Commitment 2025, is launched. It shapes the direction of UK food waste action for the future, and your voice has been heard in it. We are delighted to say that Courtauld 2025 will include the mountains of food waste on farms for the first time – measuring farm food waste by 2018, and including farms in the 20% reduction targets, making it farm-to-fork. This is exactly what Stop the Rot was calling for! We like to think that Stop the Rot's meetings with WRAP and supermarkets, and the amazing public support has had a part in that, so thank you for all of your amazing support and well done! We also commend Courtauld for being more ambitious than previous incarnations of the agreement, showing that public pressure is having an effect, but challenge it to go further and meet our 30% target rather than 20%. We need to overcome the plight of our farmers, keep pace with climate change issues and begin to address the shameful state of food poverty in Britain. Stop the Rot have been in regular meetings with WRAP who facilitate Courtauld 2025, along with key retailers, farmers and manufacturers, pushing for your asks to be included. Courtauld Commitment 2025 is a good step, including more actors involved in food waste broadly, but as a voluntary agreement with industry it can only go so far, since it has to bow to corporate concerns. That means we have to keep up public scrutiny and pressure on the supermarkets to act meaningfully, and if they won’t, push for regulation. With your continued support we hope we can continue to Stop the Rot! Congratulations again – keep up the fight against food waste! Keep up with what we are doing @foodwaste on twitter
