Algood City Council will meet Monday, October 12, 2026 at 5:00 pm for a work session. The final approval for rezoning 2941 Phillips Cemetery Rd be held at Algood City Hall, 215 W. Main Street on Tuesday, October 13, 2026 at 6:00 pm. We hope you can attend both days to send a strong message by speaking up for you fellow Algood neighbors and citizens to preserve our small town community. We were informed that everyone that would like to speak will have 3 minutes to voice their concerns. If you are unable to attend you may call The City of Algood at 931-537-9545, send a letter by faxing to 931-537-9429 or mailing to P.O. Box 49215, Algood, TN 38506 and/or signing this petition to stop the rezoning.
North Gate Acres Neighborhood (located behind Church on the Hill) and the citizens of Algood, TN, are deeply concerned about the recent proposal to rezone the property located at 2941 Phillips Cemetery Road from C-A (General Commercial) to I-1 (Light Industrial). The property is located between Church on the Hill and HWY 111; plus, the corner of Quinland Lake and Phillips Cemetery Rd. This petition seeks to protect our community from the inevitable negative impacts of such a change.
As residents of this community, we cherish our peaceful environment, one that would be drastically altered if this rezoning is permitted. If approved, this would discourage, potential buyers, and as a result, homeowners will suffer. Imagine the difficulty of selling your home in a neighborhood overshadowed by industrial activities. This will cause financial stress within our neighborhood. Moreover, nobody wants to live right next to an industrial site, with its constant noise pollution and disturbance that would forever change the character of our neighborhood that will severely impact our day-to-day living and overall quality of life. We are a family oriented neighborhood and community, this contradicts everything we cherish about our area.
The area around HWY 111 and Quinland Lake Rd has already experienced a significant increase in noise levels, since the trees that once acted as a buffer between HWY 111 and Quinland Lake Rd have been cut down. This proposed rezoning will only exacerbate the situation, making it an unbearable place to live.
Additionally, the traffic situation around HWY 111 and Quinland Lake Road is already precarious. The turn onto Quinland Lake Rd is a known hazard, as it is a risky maneuver at most times of the day. Increased industrial traffic would only compound these dangers by making it more perilous, raising serious safety concerns, putting the lives and well-being of residents and/or visitors at increased risk of accidents and injuries.
The rezoning proposal goes against the interest of the people who live, work, and thrive in Algood. It prioritizes industrial growth over community welfare, which should not be the case. We urge the Algood Municipal Planning Commission to reconsider and reject this rezoning decision, keeping the needs and voices of local residents at the forefront. The quality of life for us and our families should be prioritized over industrial development.
