The Issue

Ladies and gentlemen,

Imagine being a young graduate, working tirelessly at two jobs, hoping to chip away at the mountain of student debt. Picture yourself as a single mother, emerging from the wreckage of a bad marriage, stretched to your absolute limit, working yourself to the bone just to secure a roof over your children's heads. Envision your golden years as a senior, having dedicated your life to hard work, now retired but unable to afford a home, yearning to spend your days peacefully in a modest apartment. Or consider the plight of a middle-aged bachelor, diligently saving every penny, anxiously planning for a secure retirement.

When COVID struck, most of us were consumed with anxiety about making rent. As the conflict between Ukraine and Russia erupted, our worries remained unchanged: rent, rent, rent. We tighten our belts, sacrifice our health, and forsake the joys of life, working relentlessly just to have a place to call home. And yet, our landlords offer no respite. Instead, they hike rents mercilessly, squeezing us dry. The more we earn, the more they take! Before we know it, half or more of our income is handed over to landlords, leaving nothing for ourselves or our families. This is unsustainable!

Young first-time renters, single mothers, and seniors are among the hardest hit. Young workers earn modest wages, single mothers often can't work full-time, and seniors are unable to work. What are we supposed to do?

Rent increases are spiraling out of control! Some states have implemented rent increase caps or rent control measures, but many still lack these crucial protections. With housing costs skyrocketing, landlords and property management companies are exploiting tenants with outrageous rent hikes, unchecked and without consequences.

We propose a solution: a rent increase percentage cap or other rent control measures. This isn't about penalizing fair landlords; it's about curbing exploitative practices that prioritize profit over people’s well-being. If we gather enough signatures, we can present a proposal to our city council, municipal government, or the appropriate authority.

WE NEED YOUR HELP! Please, sign our petition! Share it with your friends, family, co-workers, and neighbors!! Together, let's fight for fair and affordable housing for everyone!!!

Thank you!
