We want to provide a clear update on recent efforts and developments so all members of this group have the same information.
1. Saving Virginia Wesleyan, LLC
In October 2025, a subgroup of alumni formally organized Saving Virginia Wesleyan, LLC after repeated attempts to engage university leadership regarding the name change were unsuccessful.
The group retained legal counsel and raised concerns related to:
• Closed-door Board of Trustees votes in early 2025
• Transparency and due diligence
• Fiduciary responsibilities and adherence to university bylaws
Formal correspondence was exchanged with the Board of Trustees, followed by a meeting with university leadership in December. The Board later confirmed it would not reconsider the name change decision.
2. Athletic Hall of Fame
A formal letter was presented to the Athletic Department requesting that the Virginia Wesleyan Athletic Hall of Fame be preserved as its own entity, independent of the name change.
This request was denied.
3. Virginia Pilot Advertisement
An advertisement ran in The Virginian-Pilot last Sunday, February 1 to re-engage the broader Hampton Roads community and increase public awareness of the issue.
4. WHRO Coverage
WHRO published one portion of a planned series on Virginia Wesleyan. The remaining parts were not published due to editorial disagreements.
Should any additional articles be released, this group will be notified.
5. Communication Going Forward
Going forward, all questions or concerns should be directed to the LLC manager members.
Additional information and updates can be found at SavingVirginiaWesleyan.org.
Thank you to everyone who has remained engaged and informed throughout this process.
