Hello Petitioners!
We’ve learned Councillor Chris Moise is planning to use funds from Section 37 - the Community Benefits Charge - to pay for renaming Yonge-Dundas Square.
The CBC is defined this way:
'Section 37 of the Planning Act authorizes the City to adopt a community benefits charge (CBC) by-law and collect CBCs to pay for the capital costs of facilities, services and matters that are required to serve development and redevelopment. CBC funding will help support complete communities across Toronto.CBCs are collected on developments and redevelopments that are at least five storeys in height and that add at least ten residential units.'
The petitioners find that the use of these funds do not hold to the spirit of what Section 37 intended, which is to augment items like parks, benches and other city benefits affiliated with development.
Now is the time to email your City Councillor and Councillor Moise to express your displeasure with using Section 37 on a project that 71% of Torontonians vehemently disapprove of, and encourage them to stop this misuses of resources when the matter comes up for a vote later this year.

Over 71% of Torontonians are against the renaming as demonstrated in recent polls. We expect more responsible leadership at city hall. Stop the renaming of Yonge-Dundas sq. Dundas St. and Dundas Stations."
