Hello Friends & Fellow Peacock Supporters!
Thank you all again SO much for signing the petition to save the peacocks! We set a goal yesterday to reach 700 signatures today, and as I type this, we are at 738! GOOD JOB EVERYONE!
I did attend the city council workshop today, and they made sure to let us know there would be NO public comments accepted. I am not easily deterred, and this is not the last council meeting.
Now... how YOU can help. Please continue sharing this petition on your social media and with everyone you know. There is a QR code attached to the petition to make it easy for your friends to scan from your phone to sign the petition. Our new goal is to hit 1,000 signatures by Thursday.
Another way you can help is to begin emailing our council members. Ray Malnar is the council member who represents the the district where the peacocks live and call home. You can see his remarks left on the petition page where he says community members have complained about the peacocks being "a nuisance". While I do believe some people feel that way, I do not believe they are the majority. Our mission is to let Councilman Malnar know the community does not wish for a relocation of any members of the flock.
If you have read this far, thank you! Stay with me! One last thing...
The claims of 160 of them at the park seem to be somewhat conflated. I just left the park, I walked the entire area and was able to see the peacocks begin to roost. From what I saw, I think the number is closer to 70-80 and that is being generous. Therefore, the increase to 300 by this time next year seems to be wholly inaccurate.
Thank you to everyone for supporting these beauties!
