Firstly, let us wish you all a Happy and, of course, Healthy 2021. As always we appreciate your ongoing support. As we have done periodically, we thought that an update early in the New Year was appropriate.
At the Readington Township Committee (TC) meeting on December 7th 2020, the TC agreed unanimously on a Resolution to close Springtown Road, in effect changing the 523/629 intersection from a 5-way to a 4-way, in the TC’s ongoing effort to improve safety at the Intersection. A subset of Resolution 2020-121 reads as follows:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Township Committee of the Township of Readington, County of Hunterdon, State of New Jersey:
Section 1. The Township Administrator shall direct the Director of the Department of Public Works to install temporary barricades at the intersection of Springtown Road and County Route 523 to prohibit vehicular traffic and
shall also notify the various emergency services within the Township of the planned closure;
Section 2. The Police Department shall continue to monitor the intersection for motor vehicle violations.
Section 3. The cycling community shall be made aware that Springtown Road is a safer and more desirable route for bicycling the area.
Section 4. This Resolution shall be forwarded to the Hunterdon County Board of Chosen Freeholders as further evidence of the Township Committee’s continuing search to improve safety at this intersection.

Note that increased signage on the approaches to the Intersection and improved road markings at the intersection are still outstanding (TC Resolution 2020-103) and no doubt will be installed by Hunterdon County as soon as practical.
