Oxford Street, Paddington - Residents and Business Against the Cycleway

THE FACTS

·         Transport for NSW (TfNSW) has commenced a project to construct a cycleway through Oxford Street, Paddington.

·         A Consultation Plan was released last year.

·         the City of Sydney Council supports the project.

.         Woollahra Council has withdrawn their support.

·         Changes include reallocated road space along Oxford Street to reduce the existing traffic lanes from two lanes in each direction to one lane in each direction.

·         Bus stops will be reduced and right hand turns into residential streets restricted.

Paddo Accountable Community Organiser (PACO) believes that taking lanes out of Oxford Street will seriously reduce free traffic flow between the Sydney CBD and the Eastern Suburbs. Ambulance, Police and Fire Brigade services will be held up in heavy traffic congestion. Businesses will be unable to receive front door deliveries. The Markets will experience a decrease in trade volume, leading to less trade and vibrancy in Oxford Street on Saturdays.
